Summary

A LEADING ITALIAN COMPANY IN THE FIELD OF RECIPROCATING COMPRESSORS DESCRIBES ITS NEW TECHNOLOGIES FOR USING R22 IN PLACE OF R12 IN REFRIGERATED TRANSPORT. HERE THE MAJOR PROBLEM LIES IN THE HIGH TEMPERATURE OF THE COMPRESSED FLUID UNDER THE EXTREME OPERATIONAL CONDITIONS TYPICAL IN THIS AREA (EG, 231 K (-42 DEG C) EVAPORATION TEMPERATURE, 313 K (40 DEG C) CONDENSATION TEMPERATURE). THIS FIRM ASSERTS THAT GOOD RESULTS WITH LOWERING THE TEMPERATURE OF THE COMPRESSED GAS HAVE BEEN ACHIEVED BY REDESIGNING THE INTAKE MANIFOLD ; IT IS PLACED OUTSIDE THE COMPRESSOR BODY AND PROVED TO BE CAPABLE OF LOWERING THE MAXIMUM GAS TEMPERATURE BY 11 K (FROM 402 K (129 DEG C) TO 391 K (118 DEG C), AT 233/313 K (-40/40 DEG C) OPERATING CONDITIONS). THE TEMPERATURES OF THE OIL AND OF THE ELECTRIC MOTOR (IN HERMETIC COMPRESSORS) WERE ALSO LOW-ERED, BEYOND THE GAS TEMPERATURE. E. F.
