Author(s) : SAPTHASAYEE R., ZHAO F., QU M.

Summary

The paper aims to determine if current LCA (life cycle assessment) methods for determining a building’s environmental footprint adequately capture the true environmental impacts and proposes changes to the traditional building LCA process. The Global Warming Potential from the traditional LCA is computed and the same is calculated after the proposed changes. From this, It is apparent that the net impact from using the alternate methods proposed in this paper can vary significantly from a traditional LCA. In this scenario, the net impact is close to 14% different from the traditional LCA.
