Liquid phase heat transfer in circular microchannels at low temperatures.

Author(s) : MARAK K. A.

Summary

This paper presents heat transfer results from measurement of single phase methane at approximately -130°C and approximately 10 bars in a circular tube with an inner diameter of 1 mm. The measurements are compared to conventional correlations for macrotubes. For turbulent flow, the heat transfer is as predicted by conventional correlations when taking the increased surface area due to roughness into account. For laminar flow an increased heat transfer is observed, which can be fitted to entry length models. It is suggested that enhancement effects related to the increased relative roughness can explain the increased heat transfer.
