Low-temperature freeze-drying: latest findings in the preservation of living cells.

Tieftemperatur-Gefriertrocknung: Neue Erkenntnisse für die Konservierung lebender Zellen.

Author(s) : RINDLER V., HESCHEL I., SCHWINDKE P., et al.

Summary

The paper discusses the effect of very low temperatures. The authors built a freeze-drying device whose probe surface can be cooled to as low as -80 °C. With liquid nitrogen a condensation temperature below -190 °C can be obtained. Erythrocytes were used for the test. The best results were obtained at a surface temperature of -35 °C (recovery rate of over 15%).
