Summary

THE FLUX MECHANISM OF YBCO SUPERCONDUCTORS PRODUCED USING A ME LT PROCESS WAS INVESTIGATED BY MEASURINGTHE MAGNETIC FIELD DEPENDENCE OF TRANSPORT CRITICAL CURRENT DENSITIES AT 77 K. SUPERCONDUCTORS PRODUCED BY THE MELT PROCESS HAD HIGH TRANSPORT CRITICAL CURRENT DENSITY VALUES AND THE MAGNETIC FIELD DEPENDENCE OF THE TRANSPORT CRITICAL CURRENT DENSITIES WAS QUITE SMALL COMPARED TO THAT OF BULK SINTERED MATERIALS. THIS SUGGESTS THAT CRITICAL CURRENT DENSITIES IN A HIGH FIELD REGION IS DETERMINED BY FLUX PINNING WITHIN THE BULK OF THE MATERIAL. ACCORDING TO THE THEORETICAL ANALYSIS AND MICRO-STRUCTURAL OBSERVATIONS, THE EXPECTED SITE OF DOMINANT PINNING IS THE NORMAL PRECIPITATES DISPERSED IN THE YBCO GRAINS, AND THE TRANSPORT CRITICAL CURRENT DENSITIES MAY BE DETERMINED BY THEIR AVERAGE SIZE AND DENSITY.
