Summary

Study of non porous membranes, used for separating gas. They imply a mechanism of gas dissolution-diffusion in a thin layer of non porous polymer. After rapidly reviewing the basic principles of gaseous permeation, the authors examine successively the problems of the polymer selection, the development of membranes with asymmetrical structure, and finally the main industrial applications. The current advantages and limitations of gaseous permeation are underlined.
