Summary
In this work, it is shown how a balanced mechanical ventilation system with an high efficieny heat recovery contributes to a great improvement of energy performances, indoor air quality and comfort of an existing dwelling, even after the change of the windows with low-emissive ones. The results shown in this work were obtained during a research activity started in 2007 and finished in 2009. The first step was the analysis of chemical, physical and mirobiological parameters in a dwelling continuously used by the owners. The thermal transmittance of the walls was measured too. As a second step, the same parameters were measured again, after the mounting of the mechanical ventilation system. As a third step, the same measures were repeated, after the change of the windows and in this situation for some days, the mechanical ventilation was on and in others off. The data obtained demonstrated that with the new windows the energy losses decrease, but if the mechanical ventilation is off the pollutants in the air increase and are not controlled and as a consequence condensation and moulds tend to form on the internal surfaces.
