Summary

Due to economic and technological constraints, a clean room quite often adopts unidirectional flow only in a portion (the "critical" one) of the room itself. The remaining part of the volume is in a mixing flow regime mostly determined by induced air flow. The paper presents a "two flows" model particularly intended for design and operation assessment of this type of clean room. The model considers both the particulate and gaseous contaminants transfer processes and assume for them analogous diffusion behaviour and explains the differences between the real recovery time and the theoretical one. The paper presents the experimental campaign intended to validate the model and presents the results obtained from measurements of particulate and of a tracer gas.
