Summary

Two types of MASCA storage facilities were developed which are economical and can be applied to the storage of vegetables. One is pressure swing adsorption (PSA)-MASCA and the other is gas separation membrane (GSM)-MASCA. MASCA facilities are composed of a modified air generator (PSA or GSM), gas-tight CA room, O2 and CO2 monitors and a sequence program. The storage tests of broccoli, cabbage and mature-green Japanese apricot revealed that MASCA has the characteristics such as extending storage life with low expense, easy operation and wide adaptability for commodities.
