Summary

The article deals with the presence and identification of, and the damage caused to frozen cod fillets by a protozoan, Myxosporidians, a parasite which attacks the nets in the form of fusiform cysts that are visible to the naked eye and easily identifiable. Although it is not dangerous to man, it makes frozen fillets unsuitable for sale. Various guidelines are given, both for the on-board treatment of fish and for the detection of the parasite.
