Natural refrigerants: applications and risks.

Summary
Natural refrigerants like ammonia and hydrocarbons are the most promising long term alternatives for CFC, HCFC and HFC refrigerants. When applying these refrigerants, safety aspects have to be considered carefully, due to their toxic or flammable nature. Quantitative risk assessment is the favourable technique for considering the safety aspects. The backgrounds of this technique are given.
