Author(s) : Federal Ministry of Environment (Nigeria)

Type of monograph: Cooling plan

Summary

The "Nigeria Cooling Action Plan" (N-CAP) was developed in collaboration with UNDP. It outlines that the cooling sector plays a critical role for the country to achieve its targets under the Paris Agreement, the Montreal Protocol and the Kigali Amendment. The N-CAP recognizes the residential air conditioners and domestic refrigerators as the two major Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) subsectors that can easily be harnessed to reduce the country's emissions and improve energy efficiency. The N-CAP includes recommendation to integrate the National Cooling Plan into Nigeria's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and provide the background support for the development and implementation of mitigation measures, especially the implementation of existing Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) and labelling scheme for the domestic refrigerators and unitary air conditioners.
