Novel transcritical CO2 compressor.

Summary

The United Kingdom's work relates to the development of a novel compressor for use with transcritical CO2. The compressor is an offset-rotor vane type with vanes that are hinged, rather than radially sliding. Positive actuation of the vanes ensures tightly controlled clearances that provide efficiencies high enough to allow expansion energy also to be recovered. Design studies have been under way on application with various different refrigerants, including air, R134a, R410A and transcritical CO2. Practical developments are expected to start soon with UK Government support funding.
