Summary

This paper presents a numerical analysis of a novel frost prevention system for refrigerated warehouses and the design and planning of a test bench to validate the numerical simulations performed. The proposed system uses open absorption by falling film absorbers to prevent frost formation on the air coolers in refrigerated warehouses. Literature suggests that the overall refrigeration efficiency can be improved by more than 10 % through frost prevention. The numerical analysis performed in this study serves as a tool to design and plan a test bench to be installed in the AIT laboratories. The experimental tests will validate the numerical simulations performed, demonstrate the feasibility of the concept, and confirm its energy-saving potential.
