ON FORMATION OF INERT GAS IN ABSORPTION HEAT PUMPS WITH THE AMMONIA-WATER SYSTEM.

Author(s) : GRUBER F., MALL K.

Summary

BY CARRYING OUT PRACTICAL TESTS ON ABSORPTION HEAT PUMPS FOR THE HEATING OF SINGLE-FAMILY HOUSES, THE AUTHORS OBSERVED THE FORMATION OF SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTSOF INERT GASES WHICH ARE EXCLUSIVELY HYDROGEN WITH NITROGEN TRACES. LABORATORY TESTS SHOWED DIFFERENT REACTIONS RESULTING IN THE FORMATION OF THESE GASES. HYDROGEN IS LIBERATED DURING AN IRON-WATER REACTION IN THE PRESENCE OF STEEL ; NITROGEN IS FORMED AT HIGHER TEMPERATURES BY AMMONIA OXIDATION IN THE PRESENCE OF CHROMAE. THE CONSTRUCTION OF THIS EQUIPMENT WAS MODIFIED IN ORDER TO PREVENT THE FORMATION OF THESE GASES.
