Open-cycle desiccant cooling technology: a pathway to the future.

Author(s) : BELDING W. A.

Summary

The operation of a water evaporation cold production system is described, with the air having been previously desiccated by passing over a hygroscopic product. The cycle described is an open cycle, allowing, in humid regions, something of an improvement in yield. Such systems are suitable for certain types of rooms (restaurants, hospitals, swimming-pools). The ageing of the hygroscopic product must be taken into account as well as fouling of the filter through dust. Tests in progress and possible improvements are discussed.
