Operation of trans-critical CO2 vapour compression circuits in vehicle air conditioning.

Author(s) : PETTERSEN J., SKAUGEN G.

Summary

The influence of varying high-side pressure was investigated through simplified cycle analysis and by simulation and laboratory testing of a prototype circuit. Results from this work are presented and discussed, showing the effect of varying operating conditions, e.g., heat rejection temperature and evaporating temperature, on optimum high-side pressure and capacity. On this basis, favourable high-side pressure control strategies are suggested. The effects of internal heat exchange and realistic component characteristics are discussed, and a simple throttling valve concept is proposed.
