Summary
THE AUTHOR REPORTS ON ATTEMPTS TO DETERMINE THE APPLICATION AREA OF OPEN AND SEMI-HERMETIC RECIPROCATING COMPRESSORS, AS A FUNCTION OF EVAPORATING AND CONDENSATION PRESSURES. THE INFLUENCE OF THE MINERAL OIL AND THE CHLORINE RESIDUE IN CONVERTING A MACHINE TO R134A IS CONSIDERED. EXPERIMENTS WITH THE FIRST MACHINES ARE REPORTED ON. PRELIMINARY RESULTS: USE OF R134A AND AN ESTER-BASED OIL IS POSSIBLE IN RECIPROCATING COMPRESSORS OF VARIOUS SIZES AND DESIGNS IN AIR CONDITIONING AND NORMAL COOLING. MORE IMPROVEMENTS IN LUBRICATING QUALITIES ARE NECESSARY FOR THE ESTER OILS.
