Summary

In order to build a high-performance OTEC plant, it was essential to conduct more detailed research about the evaporator. The paper describes an analytical method for large-scale shell-and-plate-type evaporators for OTEC. Numerical results, such as heat transfer rate, heat flux, heat transfer coefficient, and overall heat transfer coefficient, are shown for a titanium plate of 1.9 m2 in heat-transfer surface area. Ammonia is used as the working fluid.
