Performance characteristics of vapour-compression refrigeration cycle based on the Ericsson cycle.

Author(s) : INO N., KISHI T., NISHIO T., et al.

Summary

The purpose of this research and investigation is to confirm and clarify the performance characteristics of the vapour-compression refrigerating cycle based on the Ericsson cycle. The theoretical analysis and comparison in performance of the conventional refrigerating cycle with this cycle using 12 different but typical refrigerants, produced the following essential and interesting results, i.e., there are conditions for maximizing the COP of this cycle using the expansion valve, which are decided by the dryness fraction of the inlet gas at a regenerative heat exchanger, both the COP and refrigerating capacity using this cycle show improvement for all refrigerants other than R-717 and R-32, the operational stability of this cycle is excellent against unsteady operating conditions such as refrigerant liquid flow back to a compressor.
