Performance comparison of optimized R410A replacements.

Number: pap. n. 73

Author(s) : KUJAK S., SCHULTZ K.

Summary

Lower global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant replacements for R410A have been extensively studied over the past few years with limited success in finding an optimal replacement. Refrigerants have been developed that blend R32 with the new olefin refrigerants R1234yf and R1234ze(E), along with other traditional hydrofluorocarbons. Pure R32 has also been under consideration, but its GWP is one of the highest (GWP=675) as well as being one of the more flammable refrigerants (burning velocity 6.7 cm/s). Refrigerant candidates offered to date have been a trade-off between performance and GWP, but so far candidates have not been offered that trade flammability for GWP while preserving or improving the performance of R410A. A new novel refrigerant, DR-55, is presented here that is an optimization of both GWP and flammability while being designed for performance compatible with R410A to enable an orderly transition to low GWP.
