Summary
The system performance and the amount of refrigerant charge were evaluated in a packaged air conditioner with R32 as a low-GWP (global warming potential) HFC refrigerant, and was compared with R410A. It was shown that the cooling COP of R32 was 6% higher and the heating COP of R32 was 11% higher than R410A. In addition, R32 could reduce the amount of refrigerant charge to 61% of R22 with slender pipes and heat exchanger tubes. In the future, methods designed to cope with this low flammability of refrigerants need to be implemented.
