Summary

A new secondary refrigerant based on potassium formate, has been developed. Compared to other secondary fluids, this secondary refrigerant has a low viscosity, while the thermodynamic properties are of the same order. For that reason it is a most promising alternative secondary refrigerant from an energy point of view and especially for low temperature applications. Tests have been carried out on a frozen food display cabinet. The influence of the flow rate and the inlet temperature of the secondary refrigerant has been investigated with the temperature of the frozen food as criterion.
