Summary

This paper analyses the behaviour of refrigeration systems to be potentially implemented in the city of Pamplona. Two alternative systems were compared: the first is a vapour compression cycle were the working fluid is R404A and the second is a transcritical cycle in which the working fluid is R744. The same design conditions were maintained in both cases. Likewise, it was used the climatic data of the city of Pamplona. Dynamic simulation of the systems (annual basis) was performed using the Pack Calculation Pro code. It was concluded that the average annual COP of the vapour compression system was 2.78 while of the transcritical was 3.23. Accordingly, the annual electrical energy saved in the transcritical system was 9945 kWh, equivalent to 13.9% relative to the vapour compression system, showing that the transcritical system has a more significant energy performance, for this case study. The equivalent CO2 emissions analysis were analysed.
