Summary

THE QUALITIES AND DEFECTS OF SCREW COMPRESSORS ARE SUMMARISED, WITH THE IMPROVEMENTS TO WHICH THEY WERE SUBJECTED. THE RECENT DEVELOPMENT OF THESE MACHINES TENDS TO MINIATURISATION AND AIRTIGHTNESS. AN INVENTORY OF 80 TO 800 M3/H SCREW COMPRESSORS IS SHOWN IN TABLES OF TECHNICAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS. THE COMPARISON OF SCREW AND PISTON COMPRESSORS IS MADE IN THE CASE OF THE USE OF HALOCARBONS, AFTER TECHNICAL CRITERIA: VOLUME GENERATED, COP AT FULL AND PART LOAD AND AFTER ECONOMIC CRITERIA. SCREW COMPRESSORS WILL STILL BE IMPROVED, BUT THEIR MINIATURISATION MAY FIND PHYSICAL LIMITS. IN ADDITION, OTHER COMPRESSION SYSTEMS ARE DEVELOPING IN THE DOMAIN OF SMALL CAPACITIES. IN CONCLUSION, IN THIS MUCH DEVELOPING DOMAIN, THE COMPARISONS CAN BE ONLY PROVISIONAL AND SELECTION IS LIKELY TO BECOME STILL MORE DIFFICULT.
