POTASSIUM CARBONATE AS A SECONDARY REFRIGERANT.

Summary

HEAT PUMP SECONDARY REFRIGERANTS HAVE TO MEET VARIOUS REQUIREMENTS. THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES, AND ALSO THE CONSIDERATION OF CORROSION AND THE EFFECTS ON NATURAL ENVIRONMENT IN THE CASE OF LEAKAGE ARE IMPORTANT. CONVENTIONAL MATERIALS HAVE DRAWBACKS IN MANY ASPECTS. THE AUTHORS EXAMINED VARIOUS KNOWN REFRIGERANTS AND NEW ONES, AMONGST WHICH THE AQUEOUS POTASSIUM CARBONATE SOLUTION. AT PRESENT, ABOUT 10 PLANT ARE OPERATING WITH ENCOURAGING RESULTS. THE PAPER INCLUDES DIAGRAMS SHOWING THE DENSITY, SPECIFIC HEAT, VISCOSITY AND HEAT TRANSFER CAPACITY OF VARIOUS POTASSIUM CARBONATE SOLUTIONS AS A FUNCTION OF TEMPERATURE. COMPARISONS BETWEEN DIFFERENT SECONDARY REFRIGERANTS ARE PRESENTED WITH REGARD TO HEAT TRANSFER AND CORROSION.
