Summary

Preservation of mould strains in distilled water were evaluated in order to know its possibilities. In this method, spores were aseptically inoculated in bulbs containing distilled water and stored at 6 plus or minus 1 °C. The authors carried out evaluation of viability, macro- and micro-morphological characteristics. Strains from Penicillium camemberti, Mucor pusillus, Penicillium roqueforti and Rhizopus oligosporus showed a good viability retention after two years of preservation. The Aspergillus niger strain that did not have a higher value, remained viable over the test period. The authorsdid not observe changes in morphology and macromorphological characteristics in the evaluated strains. The results obtained led to the conclusion that it is possible to use this method to preserve filamentous mould.
