Summary

ASPERGILLUS NIGER AND BOTRYODIPLODIA THEOBROMAE ARE MOULDS CAUSING THE MOST SERIOUS DETERIORATIONS OF GRAPES (6 TO 60% LOSSES OF ARRIVALS ON MARKETS DURING THE MAIN SEASON). NO TREATMENT MADE PRIOR TO INOCULATION WAS EFFECTIVE AGAINST A. NIGER, WHEREAS A POSTHARVEST TREATMENT WITH 10 MIN DIPS IN 500 PPM BAVISTIN GAVE SATISFACTORY RESULTS. POTASSIUM METABISULFITE (2.5%) WAS VERY EFFECTIVE PRIOR TO THE INOCULATION. THIABENDAZOLE AND BAVISTIN MAY REDUCE THIS INFECTION BY TREATMENT AFTER INOCULATION. COMBINED BAVISTIN-POTASSIUM METABISULFITE GAVE SATISFACTORY RESULTS, THE BEST ONES BEING THOSE OBTAINED WITH DOSES OF THESE PRODUCTS OF 0.1 + 2.5%, RESPECTIVELY. STORAGE AT 276-278.5 K (3-5.5 DEG C) UP TO 35 DAYS, FOLLOWED BY STORAGE IN THE OPEN FOR TEN DAYS WAS EFFECTIVE.
