Pressure loss of evaporation and condensation inside herringbone microfin tubes.

Summary

The evaporation and condensation pressure drops of R-410A and R-22 inside herringbone-type microfin tubes with different fin dimensions were measured experimentally and compared with those evaluated by using the newly proposed correlation of a two-phase frictional multiplier, in which the effects of tube diameter, mass velocity and physical properties of refrigerant have been introduced. In consideration of the herringbone tube, some modifications were made to the previous formula of the single-phase friction factor of finned tube. The ranges of refrigerant mass velocity ranged from 100 to 400 kg/m2.s for both evaporation and condensation of R-410A and R-22. The present correlation predicts experimental data fairly well within plus or minus 20% for condensation but for evaporation, it underpredicts by more than 20%.
