Summary

IN 1974 THE HYPOTHESIS WAS FIRST FORMULATED ABOUT THE DEPLETION OF THE OZONE LAYER WITHIN THE STRATOSPHERE BY THE ACTION OF FULLY HALOGENATED FLUOROCHLOROCARBONS. THE LATEST KNOWLEDGE HAS TOLD US THAT THESE COMPOUNDS, BESIDES CO2, ARE ALSO CONDUCIVE TO THE < GREENHOUSE EFFECT >, IE THE GRADUAL HEAT-UP OF THE EARTH'S ATMOSPHERE. THE VIENNA CONVENTION ON THE PROTECTION OF THE OZONE LAYER ADOPTED IN 1985 AND THE FOLLOW-UP CONFERENCE IN MONTREAL HAVE LAID DOWN STEPS TO PROTECT THE OZONE LAYER.
