PROPANE AS AN ALTERNATIVE REFRIGERANT IN FOODSTUFFS TRANSPORT.

Author(s) : BOLDRIN B., et al.

Summary

THE AVAILABILITY OF A LOW-COST REFRIGERANT IS IMPORTANT IN THESE DAYS OF CFC ELIMINATION. THE AUTHORS INVESTIGATED THE USE OF PROPANE IN A REFRIGERATING UNIT FOR FOODSTUFF TRANSPORTATION. PROPANE IS AN EXCELLENT REFRIGERANT: SOME OF ITS THERMOPHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS ARE VERY CLOSE TO THOSE OF R12. THE MAIN PROBLEM IS TO GET SUITABLE THERMOSTATIC EXPANSION VALVES. IF THIS PROBLEM IS NOT COMPLETELY SOLVED, THE RESULTING COP FOR PROPANE IS COMPARABLE TO THAT OF R12.
