Summary
A 2.5-year European-Union research project has made it possible to evaluate the operating of a reversible air-to-water heat pump using propane as refrigerant without requiring retroconversion of the existing system that had been designed to use R22. The capacity of the system was not reduced, and a 19% improvement in COP, and a 65% reduction in refrigerant charge were achieved.
