Summary

A PHENOMENOLOGICAL MODEL, BASED ON CLEM'S FORMULATION AND UTILIZING VERY LOW ALTERNATING CURRENT SUSCEPTIBILITY MEASUREMENTS, IS PRESENTED WHICH DEMONSTRATES THE EXISTENCE OF A CRITICAL FIELD CORRESPONDING TO THE APPEARANCE OF FLUX PINNING. THE ANALYSIS ALLOWS THE CLASSIFICATION OF A LARGE VARIETY OF HIGH TEMPERATURE SUPERCONDUCTORS INCLUDING BULK SAMPLES, THIN FILMS AND SINGLE CRYSTALS. THE ANALYSIS APPLIES TO YBCO COMPOUNDS AS WELL AS TO LBCO AND BSCCO COMPOUNDS OR CHEVREL PHASES. THE BEST QUALITY APPEARS TO BE FOR YBCO SINGLE CRYSTALS, WHILE SINTERED BSCCO EXHIBITS PECULIAR BEHAVIOUR.
