Summary

The paper describes the operations to replace R12 by R134a in an existing plant as well as several recommendations on safety measures, for all systems using this type of refrigerant (humidity, toxicity, inflammability), and in particular for R134a. The following are discussed: plant draining and replacement, notably the expansion valves and driers; draining and replacement of the refrigerant. Safety aspects for the different operations are discussed.
