R22/R152a mixtures and cyclopropane (RC270) as substitutes for R12 in single-evaporator refrigerators: simulation and experiments.

Summary

The performance of refrigerant mixture R22/R152a and pure RC270 was studied in a single-evaporator domestic refrigerator originally designed for R12. A steady-state thermodynamic cycle analysis indicated an increase in the COP of 1.5 to 2.5% with R22/R152a in the composition range of 0.0 to 0.4 mass fraction R22 as compared to R12. RC270 is predicted to have a 4.4% increase in COP. All refrigeration components remained the same throughout the tests, except the length of the capillary tube and the amount of charge were changed for each fluid and the thermostat was reset to achieve the required temperatures with the same amplitude. Performances are fully described.
