Summary
This study investigated the public health impact of 14 major pathogens in 12 food categories. The pathogens included Campylobacter, Clostridium perfringens, E. coli O157:H7, Listeria monocytogenes, norovirus, Salmonella enterica and Toxoplasma gondii. The most common pathogen-food combinations were responsible for USD 8 billion and 36 000 loss of quality-adjusted life years in terms of economic and health burdens respectively.
