REFRIGERANT MIXTURES: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES.

Author(s) : SPAUSCHUS H. O.

Summary

REFRIGERANT MIXTURES, INCLUDING AZEOTROPES AND NON-AZEOTROPES, ARE ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT AT THE PRESENT TIME WHEN ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS REDUCE OR ELIMINATE FROM CONSIDERATION MANY, IF NOT MOST, OF THE WIDELY USED, FULLY-HALOGENATED REFRIGERANTS. THE APPLICATION OF NON-AZEOTROPIC REFRIGERANT MIXTURES ADDS ANOTHER VARIABLE, MIXTURE COMPOSITION, WHICH MUST BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION IN CYCLE ANALYSIS AND SYSTEMS DESIGNED TO USE THESE WORKING FLUIDS. IN THIS PAPER THE POTENTIAL BENEFITS AND ADDITIONAL COMPLEXITIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE USE OF REFRIGERANT MIXTURES ARE EXAMINED.
