Summary
A comprehensive illustration of an Italian ship that was recently put into service. It is equipped with six 1000 m3 tanks, suitable for liquefied gas at temperatures as low as -104 deg C, or dangerous chemical products. Two refrigerating circuits are employed: the main one operates according to a direct reliquefaction cycle (the same liquid cargo is the refrigerant) and uses oil-free compressors; the other is a conventional installation operating on R22 with screw compressors and serves to refrigerate the tanks walls by means of ethanol as a secondary refrigerant. An advanced safety device and the control system are also described. E.F.
