Summary

The author reviews technology drivers: environmental considerations; consumer demands (competition, price reductions and energy saving awareness); technology development (new cycles - use of CO2, new components and electronics development). He gives an overview of refrigerant phase-out schedule in Sweden: with cessation for refill after leakage on January 1, 1998 for CFCs and on January 1, 2002 for R22, and cessation of use of CFCs on January 1, 2000 even in existing installations. A database with results from oil sample analysis is also presented. Finally, the author reviews problems and possibilities with R407C and natural fluids and the results of a study on leaks.
