Refrigeration and development: from the micro-economic point of view an absolute necessity.

Froid et développement : l'approche micro-économique, nécessité incontournable.

Author(s) : TIREL J.

Type of article: Article

Summary

Based on his long field experience, from which he presents data, the author studies the possible contributions of refrigeration to the economy of developing countries. He analyzes, from the point of view of the investor, the cost-effectiveness and the feasibility of an investment in refrigeration and provides a comparative analysis of the costs of the cold chain in developed and developing countries, using as examples the cooling of fish with scale ice and freezing. Refrigeration does contribute to development, but it can be established only where there is a market, i.e., where there is growth and consumption.
