THE PAPER DISCUSSES SOME LATIN AMERICAN CIRCUMSTANCES AROUND THE LIMITATION OF THE USE OF REFRIGERATION AS AN IMPORTANT SYSTEM IN FOOD PRESERVATION FOR LOCAL CONSUMPTION AND POSSIBLE EXPORTATION. IT ALSO SETS OUT THE POSSIBILITIES OF SOME OF THE COUNTRIES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE COLD CHAIN AND PRESENTS INFORMATION ABOUT THE EFFORTS MADE BY THEM TO IMPROVE THE PRESENT SITUATION BY MEANS OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY.
