Type of article: Article

Summary

FIRSTLY, THE ARTICLE DESCRIBES ATMOSPHERE STRATIFICATION, DETAILING THE PHENOMENA WHICH EXPLAIN THE EXISTENCE AND DESTRUCTION OF OZONE. IT DESCRIBES THE DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES MAKING IT POSSIBLE TO QUANTIFY THE OZONE PRESENT IN THE VARIOUS ATMOSPHERIC ZONES, AND IDENTIFIES THOSE WHERE IT IS DEPLETED. IT ANALYZESTHE 3 MAIN HYPOTHESES SUCCESSIVELY PUT FORWARD FOR EXPLAINING THE DECREASE IN THE OZONE CONCENTRATION. THEN IT DEALS MORE PARTICULARLY WITH THE < CHLORINE > HYPOTHESIS, NOW GENERALLY ACCEPTED (THE ARGUMENTS WHICH SUPPORT IT, THE RESULTS OF THE MOST RECENT MEASUREMEN APSLNI FINALLY, IT DEALS WITH THE NEXT MEASUREMENT CAMPAIGNS, THE EFFECTS ON THE PENETRATION OF UV RADIATION TO THE GROUND, AND, VERY BRIEFLY, THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT.
