Retrofitting vs new installation: still an economic alternative.
Author(s) : DAVEY J. P.
Summary
The end user is faced with the dilemma of either retrofitting existing chlorofluorocarbon plant to a specifically designed and OEM approved R22 based retrofit replacement (e.g. R408A R409A) or to a zero ODP long-term solution (e.g. R404A, R134a), or replacing the entire refrigeration system. This decision making process is based not only on capital cost, which in the case of complete equipment replacement is significant, but also convenience in terms of plant operation and practicality. This paper discusses options, economics and trends within various sectors of the refrigeration and air conditioning industry in the UK, Europe and beyond.
