Type of article: Article

Summary

The study shows beneficial effect of riboflavin during cryopreservation of mouse islets. Inclusion of riboflavin in the cryopreservation medium led to improved islet recovery as evidenced by increased islet viability, decreased lipid peroxidation, increased GSH levels and insulin production comparable to freshly isolated islets. Perhaps this is the first report depicting the role and action of riboflavin in protecting islets from cryoinjury.
