Summary

WITH THE RECUPERATOR CYCLE CERTAIN PROPERTIES OF NON-AZEOTROPIC REFRIGERANT MIXTURES ARE UTILIZED TO PRODUCE LOW TEMPERATURES IN A SIMPLE MANNER. SINGLE-STAGE COMPRESSION SUFFICES HERE TO OBTAIN TEMPERATURES WHICH, WITH CONVENTIONAL METHODS, WOULD REQUIRE COMPLEX PROCESSES. STANDARD REFRIGERATION COMPONENTS WERE ASSEMBLED TO FORM A SINGLE-STAGE UNIT IN A RECUPERATOR CONNECTION. IT WAS USED TO INVESTIGATE A TOTAL OF 30 DIFFERENT REFRIGERANT MIXTURES. REGARDING THE COP AND REFRIGERATING CAPACITY, GOOD RESULTS WERE OBTAINED FOR R502-R13 AND R12-R13 MIXTURES AT TEMPERATURES DOWN TO 203K (-70 DEG C). MIXTURES OF R502-R14 ARE SUITABLE FOR TEMPERATURES DOWN TO 183 K (-90 DEG C) AND OF R12-R14 FOR TEMPERATURES DOWN TO 163 K (-110 DEG C).
