Solubility of CO2 in a synthetic oil.

Author(s) : YOUBI-IDRISSI M., BONJOUR J., TERRIER M. F., et al.

Summary

For environmental reasons which involve a reduction of the greenhouse effect gases emission, carbon dioxide is an attractive substitute to replace the classical refrigerants. However, because of the high pressure of CO2 and its thermodynamic properties, the reliability and energetic performance of refrigerating units require a suitable choice of lubricant. The oil miscibility and solubility are important parameters to make this choice. In this study, the solubility of CO2 in a synthetic oil of polyalkylene-glycol type was measured for temperatures ranging from -20 to 60 °C at pressures up to 12 MPa. The experimental data gave an indication on the miscibility limit of the studied pair of CO2/lubricant.
