Summary

TRADITIONAL METHODS MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO CALCULATE STEP BY STEP THE LEVEL OF SOUND PRESSURE, ASSUMING COMPLETE SOUND DIFFUSION. THIS CONDITION IS NOT FOUND IN RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS AND OFFICES WHICH ARE GENERALLY CHARACTERIZED BY A REGULAR GEOMETRICAL SHAPE AND BY A HIGH ACOUSTIC ABSORPTION DUE TO FURNITURE. BY ANALYZING THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS OBTAINED FROM 38 HOMES AND OFFICES, COMPLETELY FURNISHED UP, IT HAS BEEN POSSIBLE TO OBTAIN AN EMPIRICAL RELATION WHICH IS PARTICULARLY USEFUL FOR PLANT DESIGNERS AND MANUFACTURERS.
