GENERAL PRESENTATION OF THE DESIGN AND USE OF COMBINED HEATING -AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS WITH ALTERNATE OR SIMULTANEOUS USE IN COMMERCIAL AND RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS. THE AUTHOR SUMMARIZES THE PURPOSES AND DESCRIBES THE PRINCIPLE OF THE SO-CALLED REVERSIBLE THERMODYNAMIC SYSTEMS AND OUTLINES THE PROBLEMS RAISED BY THE PERMUTATION OF THE ROLES PLAYED BY THE TWO EXCHANGERS AND THEIR COMMON SOLUTIONS. HE REVIEWS THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF SYSTEMS ON THE MARKET, CLASSIFIED ACCORDING TO THE KIND OF THE FLUID (AIR OR WATER) USED AS HEAT TRANSFER FLUIDS ON THE TWO EXCHANGERS AND THEIR RESPECTIVE DOMAINS OF PREFERENTIAL APPLICATIONS. HE OUTLINES THE ECONOMIC AND ENERGETIC INTEREST OF THE PROCESS AND AS AN EXAMPLE DESCRIBES THE (VERY DIFFERENT) DESIGN OF THE < REVERSIBLE > PLANT COMMONLY USED IN THE USA AND JAPAN IN PRIVATE RESIDENCES.
