Summary

Spacecraft air conditioning comes under the general topic of environmental control and life support system, which is one of the most important fields of manned space technology. In the paper, special features of spacecraft air conditioning are discussed, and as examples, the air conditioning systems of Skylab, the Space Shuttle, and Spacelab are briefly described. The air conditioning systems of JEM (Japan Experiment Module), which is to be attached to the space station FREEDOM and is the first Japanese manned spacecraft, is also described.
