STRAWBERRY IS A VERY PERISHABLE FRUIT AND LIABLETO INFECTIVE AND PHYSIOLOGICAL DISEASES, SO ITS UTILIZATION AS A FRESH PRODUCT IS LIMITED TO FEW DAYS OF STORAGE BEFORE THE FRESH MARKET DISTRIBUTION. THE PRINCIPAL ASPECTS OF THE PROBLEM ARE REVIEWED AND DISCUSSED WITH SPECIAL ATTENTIONTO THE PHYSIOLOGICAL AND AMBIENT DISEASES, SUCH AS THE PHYTOTOXIC EFFECT OF CO2 AND COLD INJURIES AS WELL AS THE MICROBIOLOGICAL INFECTIONS.
